Las Alpujarras and  bird-watching are one!  The richness of the different flora and fauna make the Sierra Nevada National Park a very special place for bird-watching. Climbing from 450 metres in the valley of Órgiva to about 3,000 metres in the Sierra Nevada mountains the area is filled with natural beauty.  Evergreen forests, olive and almond trees, walnut, chestnut and numerous types of oak are but a few of the 2,500 vegetal species of which 64 are endemic, providing the perfect habitat for many different types of bird.  Bird-wise something is always happening as many birds return earlier after winter because of the moderate Mediterranean climate.  Migration can be followed throughout the year, with peak numbers present in spring and autumn.
