Carmen Ortega Marcos de Sharples studied English at Cambridge University and obtained an Honours Degree from the University in Alicante, Spain, followed by a teaching certificate She also did an intensive course in German at the Goethe Institute and taught Spanish to foreign students at Darmstadt University. In addition Carmen taught English to students at the Institute of International Studies in Alicante, as well as the Centre for Secondary Education and gave private tuition to Primary and Secondary school children.
Whilst in Alicante Carmen was the official interpreter for the Guardia Civil and she has done translation work for the Law Faculty at the Unverisity.
